Hello friends! Today I'm excited to introduce you to YA author, Sonja J. Breckon, who's joining us for a stop along her Xpresso Book Blog tour. Sonja is a builder of fantasy worlds and not ashamed to admit she lives in them more than in the real world. Besides writing books, she works with various programs to create her own cover art, interior art, design, formatting, and fantasy maps. She loves nature, the universe, coffee, and bookstores. Oh, and chicken potato enchiladas. (Who doesn't!)
Sonja's YA Fantasy, Silver Dawn Afire, will be released March 16th, 2021, and you can win a copy! Here’s a little about the book:
SIDRA ANATOLA will soon die a human death and be reborn as one of the myridian, beings destined to destroy the World of Aetheria. In a desperate attempt to change her dark fate, she flees home and the young man she loves to seek help from a powerful entity who has lived through all the ages. But she may not make it in time before she is killed by hunters—or by the love of her life, also a myridian, who fights every day to hold onto the emotions that made him human.
BRESEIS ERISWEN was expelled from the academy and failed her father who expected her to carry on her late mother’s profession as a myridian hunter. But Breseis never wanted to be a hunter—she refused to kill, and she never believed in myridians, to begin with. She leaves home with big dreams, lacking experience, and a broken heart, to prove that she is more than a failed hunter.
Two contrasting paths converge to become a turbulent one. A mouthy intellect with a colorful personality, and a skilled warrior with a frosty attitude, put their differences aside and travel the rest of the way together, robbing temples, angering false gods, and escaping numerous predicaments with their lives. Amid the chaos, they form a friendship despite a gut feeling that both hide dangerous secrets that can save or destroy the world and each other.
I’m really excited to share the following guest post from Sonja, where she talks about her writing space.
Guest post by Sonja J. Breckon
I have several writing spaces in my house, not only for a change of scenery, but also to alleviate my back and neck pain. I used to write on my bed with my laptop on a comfy lap desk, but that was murder on the muscles in my neck. So, I opted for a stand-up desk and a red chair that looks like something out of Star Trek—for when I’m not standing, of course. Recently, I purchased another desk that can lower and widen so I can sit just about anywhere – it even fits across my queen size bed!
Here’s a quick photo of my “Star Trek” writing space:
I can never write outside, or even in a hotel or at a bookstore or Starbucks – I need complete quiet when writing, devoid of any distractions, so at home is the only place for me. One day I hope to have an office overlooking the beach, or far away in the mountains.
But no matter where my writing space is from one day to the next, I need my maps of Aetheria on the wall beside me so that I can look over for reference while writing the Seventh Age Saga.
I also love to make short videos of my writing and graphic-making process: cover art, mapmaking, interior formatting and design. Be sure to follow my Instagram page.
There you have it! I hope Sonja gets that dream space overlooking a sunny beach one day. And even though she doesn't write in Starbucks, I hope she has lots of coffee at home. :)
